Blanche Wallace Hooks

Mrs. Blanche Wallace Chapman Hooks passed away on April 2, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; Will Garret and Hixie Hammonds Wallace, first husband, Wilbur Farris Chapman and second husband, Webster Lamar Hooks, infant daughter, Vickie Diane Hooks, daughter, Linda Chapman Brothers, brothers; Arthur, Melvin, W.H. and Curtis Wallace, sisters; Bessie Mae Andrews and Annie Sue Bailey. Born February 25, 1925, Blanche grew up in Shawmut, Al, graduated from Valley High School and Alverson Draughn Business College. After her second marriage, she moved to Scottsboro and was an active member of Broad Street Church of Christ. She was retired from Jackson County Health Department and after retirement was an active volunteer of the Ladies Auxiliary of Highlands Medical Center, delivered Meals on Wheels, participated at the Senior Citizens Center and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling with her friends. Her special joy was time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Blanche is survived by sons; Larry (Nell) Chapman of Decatur, Ray (Martha) Chapman of Scottsboro, daughter, Kay Chapman of Scottsboro, step-daughter, Sonya Gail Hooks (David) Miller of Leeds, Al, step-son, Robert Hooks of St. Mary's, GA and son-in-law, Wayne Brothers of Scottsboro., grand children; Dr. Jeff Chapman of Lexington, KY, Jenny Chapman (Kyle) Clark of Cullman, John Farris (Bronwynne) Chapman, Laura Jones Chapman (Booth) Armstrong, Mark Wallace (Suzanne) Chapman all of Birmingham, Leah Brothers (Todd) Woodruff of Madison, Will Chapman (Gia) Brothers of Birmingham, Kevin and Karen Hooks of Kentucky, David Saul (Tina) Miller and William Webster (Stacey) Miller of Leeds, AL. Eleven great grandchildren also survive; Brooks and Braden Clark, Jack, Henry Carr and Callie Chapman, Haley, Abbigail and Luke Brothers, John Levi Brothers and Keith and Saylor Miller, several nieces, nephews and a multitude of precious friends. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Thursday at Scottsboro Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Terry Broome officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 11:00am until funeral time. Her six grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broad Street Church of Christ, Scottsboro Home Health and Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
