Mr. Carl William Phillips

Carl W. Phillips, 79, passed away Thursday, 16 February 2023 at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville. Carl was born on 11 June 1943 to James A and Pearl A Phillips in Olympia, Wash. He attended Olympia High School. At the age of five Carl knew he wanted to join the Navy and did in 1961. Carl served several tours in Vietnam and during the twenty-two years of his service he was on the USS Coral Sea, USS Anchorage, USS King and USS New Orleans. Upon his retirement from the Navy he went to Centralia Community College and joined Boeing BCSS in Seattle in 1985 working as a communications engineer. In 1986 he was transferred to Harrisburg, PA and in 1988 was transferred to Huntsville where he continued working until his retirement in 2007. Carl was an avid sports fan and enjoyed bowling. He was also a collector of baseball cards and coins and a Corvette enthusiast owning several over the years. Carl was a loving husband to Joyce G Phillips, whom he married on 7 July 1990. Other survivors include granddaughter Katrina Lancaster of Colorado Springs, Colo., granddaughter Erica Lancaster of Ft Collins, Colo, and grandsons Brian Lancaster of Colorado Springs, Colo and Noah Phillips of Yelm, Wash. Also among his survivors are great-grandchildren Angelina, Analisa, Elaena, Nathaniel and Emilia of Colorado Springs, Colo. Other survivors include sisters-in-law Bev Phillips of Olympia, Wash. and Jeanne McKenty of Lawton, Ok and brother in-law Wm Russell Glass (Terri,) of Scottsboro and Trussville Al, eighteen nieces and nephews and twenty-two great nieces and nephews. Carl is also survived by his beloved bird Mickey. He was preceded in death by his parents James A and Pearl A Phillips of Olympia, Wash, in laws LTC ( ret.) and Mrs. Harley G Glass of Scottsboro, Al., brother Dr. Raymond L Phillips of Olympia, Wash. and LTC (ret) Samuel McKenty of Lawton, Ok. A special thanks to Drs Brian Roberts and James Smelser for their outstanding care. Services will be at Scottsboro Funeral Home 11 March 2023. Visitation from 2:00 -3:00 p.m., services to follow at 3:00 p.m. and burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors.
