Mary E. McCoy

Mary E. McCoy of Scottsboro went home to be with her Lord and Savior – Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 15, 2014. She was 84 years old and had been a resident of Highlands Health and Rehab for the past five years. Mary was born at Section, Alabama. She and her family were original residents of Skyline Colony. Near the end of World War II she came to Scottsboro and began work at the age of 15. Mary married and raised two sons by working as a seamstress in her home sewing shop. In 1963 she made the majorette uniforms for the Scottsboro High School Marching Band. She was a charter member of Agape Baptist Church and a prior member of Calvary Baptist. Mary taught Children’s Sunday School for more than 25 years. Over the years, Mary visited friends and family in Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Maryland and Washington, DC. She loved to travel and particularly enjoyed bus trips and outings with her church family and her friends at Highlands Health & Rehab. Mary was a special lady and was proud to count Ruby & Ken Hilliard as well as Joe & Cynthia Partridge among her special friends for their assistance during the later years of her life. Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence McCoy, Sr. and her second husband, Claude Evett. She is survived by her sister – Betty Paschal; brother in law – Thomas Paschal; their children – Sandy Elkins, Alvin (Sarah) Paschal and niece – Joyce Amaya; sons – Lawrence McCoy, Jr. & Larry McCoy; daughters in law – Kathy McCoy & Wanda McCoy; granddaughters – Shannon Farrington, Erin McCoy and Ann Joose; grandsons in law – Eric Farrington, Jason Joose; great grandchildren – William Farrington, Sarah Farrington, Alex Joose, Addison Joose, Alayna Joose; a host of friends. Services will be held at the Scottsboro Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 18, 2014. Visitation will be begin at 12:00 noon with funeral services to be held at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Agape Baptist Church or Highlands Health and Rehab.
