Shirley Vines Dawson

Shirley Downs Vines Dawson passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 4, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 66 years old. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Dawson and their four children who have been greatly loved and cherished by both parents: Cheryl Vines Thornton (Lynn) of Fyffe, AL; Brad Vines (Jennifer) of Scottsboro; Shannon Vines Haston (Tim) of Scottsboro and Bishop Dawson (Amber) of Scottsboro, AL. Eight grandchildren: Christian Gray, Dillon Thornton, Matlyn and Adyson Thornton, all of Fyffe, AL; Carson Vines of Scottsboro, AL: Wimberly and Windsor Haston of Scottsboro AL and Alivia (Liv) Dawson of Scottsboro, AL Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Joe W. Downs and is survived by her loving mother, Monique Downs and four siblings: JoAnn Downs (Bill) Wakefield, Charmaine Downs (John) Brown, Johnny (Lona) Downs and Linda Downs (Tom) Carter as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley was a true businesswomen and contributor to the economic growth of Scottsboro. She first opened and operated Potpourri Gift Shop. In 1981, she bought Wimberly House Interiors and expanded the business into the business it is today. She obtained a license to be a state general contractor. She developed Wimberly Estates and built beautiful homes. She then expanded into the service industry by opening Southern Estates - an assisted living facility and finally, ventured into real estate with the purchase and renovation of The Village on Broad Street. Her true sense of style, presentation and an eye for design and construction assisted her in so many ways. It was truly her gift as well as being an accomplished cook. Shirley shared her love of cooking by hosting the TV program “He Cooks, She Cooks, Southern Style” which aired on WHNT News Channel 19 and Fox 54 in Huntsville and then opened She Cooks Café inside the Wimberly House. She was a beautiful, funny, talented lady who loved her husband, children, grandchildren and all of her family. She was a Christian who accepted Christ as a teenager and was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Scottsboro.
