Mr. Ulos D. Kennamer

Ulos Donald Kennamer, 91, born May 13, 1933, passed from this life and stepped into his eternal home on February 25, 2025. He lived the majority of his life on Co. Rd. 30 in Peters Cove, Woodville, AL. He was a faithful member and deacon of Union Primitive Baptist Church in Woodville, AL. He was blessed to live a good long life, filled with many trials and joys. At heart, he was 91 years young. Ulos enjoyed his career as a draftsman and designer for many years. He also designed and drew house plans for many local individuals. He served four years in the Air Force and was a very proud veteran of our nation. Ulos loved the military and his country. He served in Korea during that conflict. He did not love the war and he carried many haunting memories of war experiences the remainder of his lifetime. In 1951, he was honorably discharged after an accident while working as a mechanic on an aircraft. Over the span of his lifetime, he saw many changes in society and in technology. During his time in the service, Ulos married the love of his life, Cora Lou on Aug. 27,1953. They had grown up within a few miles of each other but never met until high school. After his discharge, they moved to the Huntsville area for several years while he worked at SCI. After several years, Ulos and Cora moved back home to Jackson County, AL where they lived the rest of their lives together. He spent eight years widowed after Cora’s death in 2017. Ulos and Cora raised four children, Ann, Steve, Donna and Paul. The light of their lives were their twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Ulos had many hobbies and interests including cattle farming, flying (at one time owning his own plane), painting, music (he loved country and blue grass music and picking his guitar with his friends). Ulos’s latter years after Cora passed were spent alone on County Rd. 30. He loved his church and enjoyed times with his family. Ulos was blessed to have some of the best caregivers. Family was always welcome, but Ulos adored his helpers. Several special ladies - Tanya Tarkington, Connie Bullock, Sandy Culver, Rita Williams and Amanda Whitaker worked with the family to make his final days bearable. We cannot thank them enough for their dedication. The family is also very grateful to the Veterans Administration and several hospice and home health groups that assisted in his care. Ulos was very proud of his VA team. They made it possible to keep him at home and for that, the family will be forever grateful. Hospice of North Alabama also did a fantastic job of providing care, including nurses, bath nurses, a chaplain, social workers and a great office staff. Dr. Mandi Allen Bell was phenomenal with the compassion and oversight she provided for many years. The family is thankful for each of you. Ulos is survived by his daughter, Ann Caves (Donnie) of Princeton, Donna Chambers (Darrel) of Woodville, and Kenneth Paul Kennamer (Delena) of Skyline; 12 grandchildren: Andy Caves, Kelly Caves Held, Jesse Kennamer, Brett Kennamer, Taylor Kennamer, Tyler Kennamer, Laura Chambers Crist, Jessica Chambers Gevers, Benjamin Chambers, Kayla Kennamer Blakesley, Madison Kennamer Olinger, and Bryant Kennamer; 18 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends and church family. Ulos Kennamer was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Cora Lou; son, Donald Steven Kennamer; his parents, Ulos Dillworth and Annie Lou Kennamer; one brother, Carl Kennamer, and one sister, Mary Bell Hicks. The family will receive visitors Sunday, March 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Scottsboro Funeral Home. The funeral will be March 3 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour before at Scottsboro Funeral Home. Elder Darrel Chambers will officiate. The burial will be in Peters Cove Cemetery in Woodville, AL.
