Thomas V. Wilkinson

Thomas V. Wilkinson, age 89 of Scottsboro passed away Monday, September 21, 2015. Mr. Wilkinson is survived by his son Thomas Wilkinson, Jr. and his wife Lesa and his daughter Susan Barnes and her husband Joe; grandchildren Patrick Barnes and his wife Valorie Moore Barnes, Clint Barnes and his wife Laura Beth Powers Barnes and Haden Wilkinson; great-grandchildren Bailey Barnes, Jake Barnes, Sam Barnes, Lucy Barnes and his sister Catherine Ozley. Mr. Wilkinson was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years Dorothy Trotter Wilkinson, mother Eva Perry Wilkinson, father Clarence Wilkinson, brothers Earl Wilkinson, Earnest Wilkinson; sisters Myrtle Wilkinson, Doris Bailey, Charlotte Jackson and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Wilkinson graduated from Handley High School in Roanoke, Alabama, and attended junior college in Mississippi on a football scholarship. He proudly served in the military as an Airborne Ranger from 1951 to 1953. Mr. Wilkinson moved to Scottsboro in 1955 after graduating from Auburn University with a degree in accounting. He worked for John Gant as an accountant before opening his own private accounting firm. In the early 1970’s he left his private practice to serve as city clerk for the city of Scottsboro under Mayor John T. Reid. During his tenure as city clerk he was instrumental in securing retirement and health benefits for the city employees. Mr. Wilkinson proudly served on the Board of Education for the Scottsboro City School system from 1961 to 1966. In 1977 he and his wife moved to Montgomery, Alabama, where he worked for the Alabama League of Municipalities until his retirement in 1990. Following his retirement he and his wife returned to live in Scottsboro where they were members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mr. Wilkinson was a loving husband, father, grandfather and “GeeDaddy”. His sweet smile, loving and generous spirit will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Amedisys Hospice of Huntsville and to the staff of Southern Estates Assisted Living for their dedication and loving care of Mr. Wilkinson. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 23, 2015, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Micaiah Tanck officiating. Burial will follow at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association or to Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
